The July edition of The Ojeman Files taps into two sides of Houston’s musical psyche—restless punk and dreamy indie pop—with a third act still waiting to make its mark.

Loose Helmet doesn’t do subtle. This self-loathing punk outfit out of Houston plays like they’re exorcising something—and they probably are. It’s raw, fast, and loud in all the right ways. Their sound lives somewhere between a basement show breakdown and a full-throttle middle finger to everything going wrong.

Painters Club balances the night with a softer edge—but don’t confuse soft for safe. Their indie pop is layered, introspective, and effortlessly melodic, built on shimmering tones and wide-open vulnerability. They make music for the drive home after a long night, or the quiet moments you didn’t know you needed.
